THE Idi-Amin of Edo state has taken the joke too far by withholding the statutory allocation of Benin Traditional Council for three months without any moral or legal justification. Does he think the Oba of Benin will come and prostrate for him to release the said money?
The three months allocation that is withheld by the Idi-Amin of Edo state to the Benin Traditional Council is the statutory right of the Oba of Benin and the Benin Traditional Council had been in existence even before the Idi-Amin was born and the Council will continue to be in existence after the despot’s exit.
The Idi-Amin of Edo state sat on top of the allocation out of sheer frustration bcos of the autonomous power the outgoing PMB gave to the respected Oba of Benin to be the sole custodian of the repatriated artefacts that was stolen and looted from the Oba of Benin palace many years ago.
The reports that was issued by the Federal Govt says the repatriated artefacts should be returned to the palace of the Oba bcos that is the original place the artefacts were stolen and common sense should tell whoever that is dragging the artefacts with the Oba of Benin that the repatriated artefacts doesn’t belong to the State Government.
