The transfer window took another dramatic turn on Tuesday as Chelsea confirmed loan moves for Filip Jorgensen and Ishe Samuels-Smith, while Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo completed a season-long switch to Liverpool.
Chelsea announced that 24-year-old goalkeeper Jorgensen has joined French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg for the 2026/27 season. The Danish goalkeeper arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2024 and has made 36 appearances for the club over the past two seasons.
Chelsea said it would continue to support Jorgensen during his spell in France as he looks to gain further experience.
The Blues also confirmed that defender Ishe Samuels-Smith will spend the 2026/27 campaign on loan at Notts County. The 20-year-old joined Chelsea from Everton in 2023 and spent last season with Championship side Swansea City, where he made eight appearances.
While Chelsea’s moves were focused on developing squad players through regular first-team football, Liverpool made one of the more eye-catching moves of the day by bringing in Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan.
The 27-year-old defender was part of Barcelona’s LaLiga-winning squad last season, scoring three goals in 24 appearances. His departure, however, has generated an emotional response within the Barcelona dressing room.
Barcelona midfielder Fermín López described Araujo’s exit as a “shame”, highlighting the defender’s importance as captain and their close relationship.
“He has come to say goodbye. It’s a shame, because he is a captain and I have a good relationship with him,” López said, according to SPORT.
The midfielder acknowledged that Araujo had chosen to continue his development elsewhere but expressed hope that the Uruguay international would return to Barcelona next season.
With Chelsea sending two players out to gain valuable experience and Liverpool securing the temporary services of one of Barcelona’s key leaders, Tuesday’s transfer activity underlined how loan deals can significantly reshape squads ahead of a new season.
