The Senate has passed the constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police across Nigeria.
The approval was granted on Wednesday after lawmakers considered the proposed legislation.
Before voting on the bill, senators agreed to adopt a manual voting process following a technical malfunction of the chamber’s electronic voting system.
The decision was taken amid concerns that the faulty device could prevent some lawmakers from participating in the voting exercise.
Under the manual procedure, senators were required to stand individually, state their names, and publicly declare their positions on the proposed state police framework.
The motion to adopt manual voting was moved by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and was subsequently approved by the chamber.
