Viral Videos Shared by VeryDarkMan Show Alleged Bandit Cash Display, Spark Public Outrage and Political Debate

A controversial series of videos shared online by social media activist VeryDarkMan has triggered widespread reactions across Nigeria, showing what appear to be armed men allegedly linked to bandit groups displaying large sums of cash and moving freely in undisclosed rural locations.
In the footage, the armed individuals are seen allegedly flaunting stacks of naira reportedly worth over one hundred million, claimed to be proceeds from ransom payments collected from kidnapped victims. Other clips circulating on social media also appear to show the suspects moving without facial coverings and, in some instances, assaulting individuals they allegedly abducted.
The videos have not been independently verified by authorities at the time of reporting.
Reacting to the development online, some users expressed frustration over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, questioning the effectiveness of ongoing military operations and government intervention. Critics argued that despite repeated assurances from security agencies, attacks and kidnappings continue to be reported in several parts of the country.
The situation quickly escalated into political commentary, with some social media users linking the issue to broader governance concerns under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, while others defended the government, insisting that security challenges predate the current administration.
However, these claims remain part of online public discourse and have not been officially confirmed by security authorities.
Meanwhile, analysts note that viral security-related content on social media often fuels heated political debate, especially as Nigeria continues to grapple with kidnapping incidents and armed banditry in several regions.
Authorities are yet to issue an official response specifically addressing the videos circulating online.
