Hong Council Chairman Raises Alarm Over Persistent Insurgency Attacks in Adamawa

The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, has called on relevant authorities to take urgent and decisive action to end the persistent insurgent attacks on communities in the area.
Wa’aganda made the appeal during a grand reception held in Hong to honour serving and retired military and paramilitary personnel from the local government area.
Hong LGA has emerged as the most affected area in Adamawa State by insurgency over the past year, with several attacks recorded in different communities, including multiple incidents this month.

Expressing concern over the worsening security situation, the council chairman lamented the displacement of residents and the impact of the attacks on farming activities.
“Our hearts are heavy because of the insecurity that burdens us,” Wa’aganda said.
“Many communities are displaced. This situation is particularly troubling as the farming season begins and farmers are afraid to return to their farmlands.”
He urged the military officers being celebrated at the event to leverage their experience, influence and professional networks to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and security to the area.
The reception, organised by the traditional institution of the Huba Chiefdom, was held at the Hong Township Stadium and drew prominent indigenes of the area from various sectors.
In his address, the paramount ruler of the chiefdom, Alheri Bulus Nyako, praised the military officers for bringing honour to the chiefdom through their service to the nation.
“You have brought honour to us and we are proud of you. We appreciate your sacrifices and that’s why we choose to celebrate you,” the monarch said.
The traditional ruler, however, expressed sadness over the repeated attacks on communities within the chiefdom by elements of the insurgent group Boko Haram, and appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts to end the menace.
Also speaking at the event, 82-year-old retired Major General Haldu Hananiya, who chaired the occasion, said recognising serving and retired military personnel, including those who died in active service, serves as motivation for greater commitment to national duty.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Istifanus Babadoke, commended the honourees for their sacrifices in defence of the country.
According to the governor, the servicemen and women have distinguished themselves through dedication and patriotism, bringing pride and honour to Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
The event celebrated the contributions of military and paramilitary officers from Hong while highlighting growing concerns over insecurity and its impact on local communities, particularly as the farming season gets underway.
