Former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was solely responsible for the emergence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Amaechi stated that while serving as a minister under Buhari’s administration, he could not publicly challenge Tinubu’s assertions because doing so could have cost him his position in government.
Speaking on his role during the 2015 presidential campaign, Amaechi said he played a central part in Buhari’s victory and personally handled major campaign battles as the Director-General of the campaign organization.
“When I was a minister, Bola Tinubu was claiming he made Muhammadu Buhari, and I couldn’t respond because I was a minister under President Buhari,” Amaechi said.
“That would have been suicidal because Buhari could fire you, so I couldn’t have said, ‘You’re wrong.’ Tinubu didn’t make Buhari president.”
He further added, “Not only was I the DG of the campaign, everyone can testify that I fought all the battles.”
Amaechi’s comments add to ongoing political discussions surrounding the contributions of key figures within the ruling coalition that brought Buhari to power in the 2015 general election.
