A group of unpaid civil servants in Taraba State has expressed frustration over the alleged non-payment of salaries for nearly 12 months, accusing the state government of neglect and silence amid worsening economic hardship.
In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Finance, Sarah Enoch, on Thursday, the affected workers lamented what they described as the ministry’s failure to take action or communicate with them regarding the prolonged salary delay.
The letter, signed by the Chairman of Unpaid Civil Servants, Abdurrauf Sani, stated that many workers and their families have been plunged into severe hardship due to the unpaid wages.
According to the group, several affected civil servants have struggled to feed their families, pay house rents, and sponsor the education of their children as a result of the salary crisis.
The workers argued that the Ministry of Finance, which is responsible for the release of government funds, ought to have taken decisive steps to resolve the issue or at least provide explanations to those affected.
They also expressed disappointment that the commissioner had allegedly remained silent despite the growing suffering among workers across the state.
“We remind you that we are your children, brothers, and sisters,” the letter read in part, describing the level of hardship experienced by workers as unacceptable.
The group called on the commissioner to urgently intervene, break her silence, and ensure immediate resolution of the lingering salary crisis.
The aggrieved civil servants further urged the Taraba State Government to prioritise workers’ welfare, insisting that employees deserve better treatment and prompt payment of salaries they have earned.
