The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, has released footage of the military operation that eliminated one of the world’s most wanted terrorists and the second-in-command of ISIS worldwide, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who had reportedly been hiding in Nigeria.
In a caption accompanying the video, AFRICOM stated: “Last night’s operation targeted a significant presence of ISIS fighters in Northeastern Nigeria, eliminating multiple high-value individuals, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.”
Nova News had earlier reported that United States President announced that American forces, working in collaboration with the Nigerian Armed Forces, carried out the joint military operation that led to the killing of al-Minuki.
According to a statement posted on his Truth Social account on Saturday, Trump said the mission followed extensive intelligence gathering and strategic coordination aimed at tracking the activities of the ISIS leader across Africa.
Also reacting to the development, Nigerian President described the overnight operation as a “significant example of effective collaboration” between Nigeria and the United States in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
The operation is being viewed as a major breakthrough in counterterrorism efforts in the Lake Chad region and the wider West African sub-region, where extremist groups linked to ISIS and other terror networks have continued to pose security threats.
