Former Senegal international, Mbaye Diagne, has backed Victor Osimhen to surpass his long-standing Turkish Super Lig goalscoring record.
Diagne currently holds the record for the highest number of goals scored by a foreign player in a single Turkish Super Lig season.
The former striker achieved the feat during the 2018/2019 campaign after netting 30 goals for Kasımpaşa and Galatasaray.
He scored 20 goals in 17 appearances for Kasımpaşa in the first half of the season before adding another 10 goals in 12 matches after completing a mid-season move to Galatasaray.
Speaking on the achievement, Diagne said he would only be comfortable seeing Osimhen break the record.
“I’m happy, very happy. I have scored a lot of goals. I’m also happy to be the top scorer here,” Diagne said in comments quoted by Turkish newspaper Vatan.
“Nobody has broken my goal record in the Super League. They probably won’t be able to. I could only accept it if my friend Osimhen broke it, but it is impossible for anyone else to break it.”
Osimhen has scored 15 Super Lig goals for Galatasaray this season as he continues to play a key role for the Turkish giants.
Meanwhile, his fellow Nigerian teammate, Paul Onuachu, has recorded 22 league goals this season.
