The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally acknowledged the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered on Thursday, April 30, 2026, affirming the continuity of the party’s leadership and nullifying the controversial Ibadan National Convention.
In a statement signed by Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, the body clarified that the apex court’s ruling upheld earlier decisions of both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which had invalidated the party’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the BoT, the ruling leaves no ambiguity regarding the legal status of the convention and its outcomes, declaring that any structures or decisions arising from the gathering have no legal standing.
“The legal position remains clear and unambiguous: the said Ibadan Convention stands nullified, and any structure emanating therefrom has no legal foundation,” the statement read.
Following the judgment, the BoT affirmed that the party’s leadership under Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as National Secretary remains the legitimate authority to steer the affairs of the PDP at the national level.
The trustees emphasized their respect for the judiciary, describing themselves as the conscience and moral compass of the party, and pledged full compliance with the court’s decision.
The BoT further noted that the PDP remains fully operational and will continue to function through its constitutionally recognized organs, in accordance with its amended 2017 constitution.
In a bid to restore unity within the party, the Board advised the National Working Committee to immediately establish a National Reconciliation Committee to engage aggrieved members nationwide.
“This is a moment for discipline, loyalty, and collective commitment to the ideals and future of the party,” the statement added, urging members to remain focused and united ahead of future electoral engagements.
Reaffirming confidence in the party’s strength, the BoT declared that the PDP remains resilient and committed to its longstanding mission of providing credible leadership to Nigeria.
