Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has thrown his weight behind his deputy, Kadri Hamzat, as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced at Lagos House in Marina, in the presence of members of the State Executive Council, APC leaders, and all 57 local government and local council development area chairmen.
Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat as well-equipped for the role, citing his extensive experience and deep understanding of governance in Lagos State.
As part of his ongoing consultations ahead of the race, Hamzat recently met with Femi Gbajabiamila, seeking support from key party stakeholders. The meeting was attended by prominent APC figures, including Musiliu Obanikoro and other party leaders.
Speaking during the engagement, Obanikoro emphasised Hamzat’s strong political grounding in Lagos and urged party leaders to rally behind his candidacy.
In his remarks, Hamzat expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in future elections, stressing the importance of party unity and continuity. He also highlighted the need to sustain the economic progress under President Bola Tinubu.
“We discussed the direction of our state and the work required to move it forward,” Hamzat noted, adding that strengthening Lagos and delivering better outcomes for residents remains a shared responsibility.
