Opposition Heavyweights Gather in Ibadan for Strategic Summit Ahead of 2027

Key figures in Nigeria’s opposition politics, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Rotimi Amaechi, have converged on Ibadan for a major opposition summit.

The high-level gathering has drawn several other prominent leaders, such as Babangida Aliyu, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Victor Umeh, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Jerry Gana, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Hosted by Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, the summit is centred on fostering unity and collaboration among opposition parties ahead of future elections.

Discussions are said to focus on strengthening democratic institutions and building a more coordinated opposition front, with indications that Atiku is among those considering a presidential run under the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 general election.

In his address, Makinde emphasised the importance of safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, urging political stakeholders to work together to deepen democratic values and ensure a more inclusive political process.
