Adelabu Resigns as Power Minister to Pursue Oyo Governorship Ambition

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Adelabu stated that his resignation would take effect from April 30, 2026, to allow for a smooth and orderly transition of responsibilities within the ministry.

The outgoing minister expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve, noting that his decision was made with “a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude.”

“I write with a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Adelabu wrote.

“This resignation is to take effect on 30th April 2026, in order to allow sufficient time for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities.”

The development follows earlier reports that Adelabu had secured the approval of President Tinubu to step down from his ministerial role in order to fully focus on his political ambition in Oyo State.

His resignation marks a significant political move as preparations gradually intensify ahead of the forthcoming governorship race in the state.
