A fresh video released by suspected terrorists has shown that John Arum, an abducted graduate of the University of Jos (UniJos), is still alive, dispelling widespread rumours of his death.
In the footage published on Monday, April 20, 2026, the abductors dismissed claims circulating online that their victim had died in captivity, describing the reports as false.
Arum, who appeared visibly distressed in the video, confirmed his identity and current condition, stating, “Today is April 20, 2026, and I am alive.”
He further revealed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N10 million for his release, adding that N6 million had already been paid, leaving a balance of N4 million.
“They demanded 10 million naira for my release and 6 million have been paid, it is now remaining 4 million naira,” he said.
The terrorists, however, issued a stern warning, threatening that any further delay in the payment of the outstanding amount could result in the victim’s death.
The latest development follows the circulation of disturbing footage of the young graduate in recent days, which had sparked widespread concern over his safety and fueled speculation about his fate.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the new video as efforts to secure his release continue.
