Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, has formally announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing an end to his membership in the ruling party.
In a notice made public on Sunday, Aondoakaa stated that his resignation took effect on March 28, 2026, following what he described as “careful reflection and wide consultations” with family members, political associates, and supporters.
The senior advocate expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve within the APC, noting that he contributed to the party’s growth at various levels during his time as a member. However, he emphasized that “prevailing circumstances” necessitated his decision, which he said was taken in the overall interest of his people and the preservation of democratic values.
Aondoakaa also paid tribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his “visionary leadership” and the support extended to Benue State under the current administration. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda despite his exit from the ruling party.
In addition, he acknowledged the role of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, praising his leadership within the APC in Benue State and his contributions to the state’s political development.
The former minister further extended appreciation to party leaders and members in Ushongo Local Government Area, across Benue State, and beyond for their cooperation and support over the years, describing the relationships built as invaluable.
Calling for calm among his supporters, Aondoakaa urged them to remain peaceful and steadfast as he prepares to unveil a “new direction” aimed at repositioning Benue State in the interest of its people.
While he did not disclose his next political move, the development is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape in Benue State ahead of future electoral activities.
