The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, against making comments on every national issue without proper verification.
Wike gave the admonition on Sunday while addressing journalists after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The FCT Minister urged Falana to always verify his facts and ensure accuracy before making public statements, stressing that public commentary from respected legal figures carries significant weight and should be guided by due diligence.
According to Wike, national discourse requires responsibility, particularly from senior lawyers and public commentators whose opinions can shape public perception and influence policy debates.
He maintained that while constructive criticism is welcome in a democratic society, it must be based on verified information to avoid misleading the public or creating unnecessary controversy.
As of press time, Falana had not publicly responded to Wike’s remarks.
