President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has reaffirmed plans to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) to enhance operations at the Dangote Refinery and expand benefits to Nigerians.
Speaking during a tour of the facility by NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, Dangote said both organisations are aligned in their goal of advancing Nigeria’s energy security and industrial development.
He stressed that the partnership could extend beyond refinery expansion to joint ventures across the oil and gas value chain, including possible upstream collaborations.
Describing the refinery as more than just a processing plant, Dangote called it an industrial hub with vast opportunities for cooperation, adding that both parties are exploring areas where they can jointly invest and operate.
Dangote also highlighted the national ownership component of the project, noting that NNPC holds a 7.25 per cent minority stake in the refinery on behalf of Nigerians. He revealed that plans are underway to allow individual Nigerians to purchase shares directly within the next four to five months.
According to him, prospective investors will have the option of receiving dividends in either naira or dollars, reflecting the refinery’s foreign currency earnings.
Beyond fuel production, Dangote pointed to new industrial initiatives within the complex, including the production of linear alkylbenzene — a key raw material for detergents — which he said would be sufficient to supply markets across Africa within the next 30 months.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration between both entities would ultimately strengthen Nigeria’s industrial capacity and make citizens proud.
