2027: Serving, Former LG Councillors Endorse Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid

A coalition of serving and former local government councillors under the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

The group made the declaration during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, pledging to mobilise Nigerians—especially at the grassroots—for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

According to the councillors, their support is based on what they described as the Tinubu administration’s commitment to local government autonomy and the implementation of key reforms nationwide.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, its President, Dr. Evoh Ugochukwu, said Nigeria has experienced purposeful and forward-looking leadership since Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

He listed several achievements of the administration, including the restoration of local government autonomy, improved grassroots funding and accountability, renewed emphasis on rural development, expansion of social investment programmes, and increased investments in infrastructure, security, agriculture, and economic reforms.

“These policies are not mere promises; they are realities that are transforming lives in our communities,” Evoh said.

He added that the Renewed Hope Agenda has moved beyond rhetoric and is now evident in towns, villages, and wards across the country.

Evoh also commended the administration’s efforts in strengthening national security through the modernisation of the Armed Forces, improved intelligence gathering and technology deployment, enhanced welfare for security personnel, and decisive action against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

“These interventions have restored confidence among our people and created safer environments for economic and social activities,” said Evoh, who represents Enenaezeraku Ward in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The National Councillors Forum of Nigeria comprises 8,809 councillors drawn from the 774 local government areas across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Presenting the collective position of the forum, Evoh said extensive consultations had been carried out nationwide before reaching a unanimous decision.

“Based on facts, evidence, and the realities on the ground, we have resolved to give our total, unwavering, and unconditional support to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027,” he declared.

Expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, Evoh said the councillors believe the President has laid a solid foundation for national prosperity and has shown courage, competence, and commitment.

He announced the launch of a nationwide mobilisation drive, calling on serving and former councillors, ward leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and community stakeholders to take the campaign to every polling unit, ward, and household.

The address was jointly signed by Hyacinth Horvel Turnoe, National Coordinator of ST/HT Grassroots Coordinators of Development, and Chief Okorie Ikechukwu Raphael, National Coordinator of the Citizens Network for Peace and Development.
