Ukrainian negotiators have landed in the United States for fresh discussions with the administration of President Donald Trump aimed at bringing an end to nearly four years of war with Russia, a member of the delegation confirmed on Saturday.
The team is expected to hold talks in Miami with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, as well as his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The meetings come just days before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Kyiv is pressing its allies for clear security guarantees as part of any potential peace deal.
“Arrived in the United States. Together with (Defence Minister) Rustem Umerov and (chief negotiator) David Arakhamia, we will have an important discussion with our American partners on the details of a peace agreement,” President Volodymyr Zelensky’s top aide, Kyrylo Budanov, wrote on social media.
He added that a joint meeting has been scheduled with Witkoff, Kushner and US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll.
Trump has repeatedly called for an end to the conflict—Europe’s deadliest war since World War II—but has voiced frustration with both sides as efforts to secure a breakthrough continue to stall.
