Shettima Heads to Guinea-Conakry for Doumbouya’s Inauguration, Eyes Strengthened ECOWAS Ties and Trade

The summit observed that the 2027 general election offers Kogi East a crucial chance to recalibrate its political strategy.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Guinea-Conakry to attend the inauguration of President Mamadi Doumbouya.

In a statement released on Friday, Shettima’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, said the Vice President would proceed to Davos, Switzerland, for the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum after the inauguration ceremony.

President Doumbouya’s inauguration follows his recent election victory and is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium, Nongo, Conakry.

According to the statement, Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to regional leadership, economic cooperation, and global economic integration in line with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

“It reflects Nigeria’s leadership role within ECOWAS, including support for Guinea’s return to constitutional order after a four-year transition,” the statement said.

It added that beyond diplomatic engagement, the visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations, noting that Nigerian exports to Guinea—particularly manufactured and agricultural products—have risen to $3.29 million.
