Tinubu Calls for Unity, Religious Harmony in 2025 Christmas Message

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and security of citizens across all faiths.

In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message released on Wednesday, the President congratulated Christians in Nigeria and around the world, describing Christmas as a period of reflection on the birth of Jesus Christ and His enduring message of peace, love and hope.

President Tinubu noted that the significance of Christmas goes beyond celebration, stressing that the teachings of Christ as the Prince of Peace remain especially relevant amid Nigeria’s current challenges.

He assured Nigerians that his government is resolute in upholding religious freedom and protecting individuals of different beliefs from violence and discrimination.

“On this Holy Day, I wish all Christians in Nigeria and across the world a Merry Christmas. I thank God for the opportunity to serve as the leader of our great country, and I pray for peace in our land, especially among people of differing religious beliefs,” the President said.

“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all citizens, regardless of faith, from violence.”

Tinubu also acknowledged the significant contributions of Christians to national development, stating that the values of love, service and compassion inspired by the Gospel have driven many Nigerians to serve humanity selflessly.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to national unity, security and stability, emphasising that every Nigerian has the right to live, worship and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity.

According to the President, no citizen should face discrimination or violence based on religion or ethnicity, noting that love for God and humanity is a shared value across faiths.

Tinubu further disclosed that his administration has consistently engaged leaders of major religious groups throughout the year, particularly on issues of insecurity and religious intolerance. He said these engagements would be strengthened to deepen collaboration with faith-based institutions, prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.

As Nigerians travel to celebrate the festive season with family and loved ones, the President advised motorists to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, while wishing all travellers safe journeys.

“With confidence in divine providence and our collective strength, we will continue the work of building a greater Nigeria—one that future generations will be proud of,” he said.
