Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Abidjan, the capital of Côte d’Ivoire, where he is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President-elect Alassane Ouattara.
State House Correspondent, Abdurrahman Jibrila, reports that Vice President Shettima touched down at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport on Sunday. He was warmly received by Côte d’Ivoire’s Prime Minister, Robert Beugré Mambé, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, Item Akpama, as well as other senior government officials.
President Ouattara was re-elected for a fourth term on October 25, 2025. Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire maintain long-standing diplomatic and economic ties, cooperating closely through ECOWAS and the African Union on issues of security, trade, migration, and regional development. Their partnership is reinforced by a Bi-National Commission and various agreements spanning anti-trafficking, agriculture, the digital economy, and other strategic sectors. Informal trade relations and a large Nigerian community in Côte d’Ivoire further strengthen the socio-economic bonds between both nations.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja at the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony.
