The Presidency has stated that the nominated ambassadorial candidates must now navigate the remaining steps before assuming their roles.
Demola Oshodi, Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to the President, explained that the nominees are subject to scrutiny by the Department of State Services (DSS), the Senate, and the host countries where they are to serve.
Speaking on Arise News’ *The Morning Show* on Tuesday, Oshodi was asked about expectations for the Senate screening and the likelihood of approval for the President’s nominees. He said, “I cannot speak for the distinguished members of the legislature. I trust they will conduct a thorough vetting process, ask the necessary questions, and obtain proper responses. This is a long-standing procedure for executive nominees, and we expect it to be carried out diligently.”
He added, “There is also screening by the DSS, the ICPC, and the receiving countries, which have the authority to accept or reject nominees through their own vetting processes. This ensures a comprehensive review of each candidate. Those who successfully pass are deemed suitable for their positions. The process is simply part of placing qualified individuals in these roles.”
Oshodi emphasized the importance of the appointments: “We need these ambassadors in place to advance Nigeria’s economic, cultural, and security interests. It is essential to have the right people representing the country abroad.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently submitted a list of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
