BREAKING: Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls Regain Freedom

The 35 students kidnapped by armed bandits from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State have been released.

Their freedom was secured through a non-kinetic strategy employed by the Federal Government.

A senior government official confirmed the development to The Nation, noting that the girls have not yet been reunited with their families.

The rescue operation was reportedly achieved through coordinated efforts involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The abduction — coming shortly after a similar incident in Niger State — triggered nationwide and international concern, leading the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, to issue a firm directive for troops to intensify search-and-rescue operations.

The successful recovery of the students brings significant relief to their families and the wider community. The reliance on a non-kinetic method, including dialogue and negotiation, highlights the government’s growing preference for peaceful strategies in addressing large-scale abductions.
