Russian missile strikes on the city of Balakliya in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region have left three people dead and at least ten others injured, including children, Hobnob News reports.
The attack, which occurred overnight, targeted the city centre, according to Vitali Karabanov, head of the Balakliya military administration. He confirmed the casualties in a statement posted on Telegram on Monday.
“According to preliminary information, three people were killed as a result of the night missile strike on the city of Balakliya,” Karabanov said.
He added that nine of the injured victims have been hospitalised, noting that emergency services are still receiving reports of additional casualties.
Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov revealed that the wounded include a 14-year-old girl, a 12-year-old child, and a 61-year-old man.
Escalation Continues as Winter Nears
Russia has continued near-daily drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities since the invasion began in February 2022. On Friday, seven people were killed when Russian strikes hit residential buildings in Kyiv.
With winter approaching, Moscow has intensified assaults on Ukraine’s energy facilities, aiming to weaken critical infrastructure. Meanwhile, Kyiv has launched counterstrikes targeting depots, oil refineries, and key installations inside Russia.
On the battlefield, Russian forces continue to push forward, capturing two additional villages in southern Ukraine on Sunday.
