The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, reportedly led tactical teams to the Iyana Oworo area to stop a planned protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore over the recent demolition of buildings in the Oworo community. Police deployment in the area prevented any gathering, ensuring smooth movement on the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to the Commissioner, intelligence reports indicated that Sowore’s group planned to regroup elsewhere in the community, prompting the continued presence of tactical units to forestall any unlawful assembly. Jimoh subsequently declared Sowore wanted for allegedly disturbing public peace.
Reacting, Sowore accused the Lagos Police Commissioner of declaring him wanted because his officers failed to carry out what he described as an illegal “shoot-on-sight” order allegedly issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. He said the Commissioner had ignored his calls but promised to meet him soon to address the declaration.
