As APC chieftain accuses Matawalle of divisive politics as party dismisses claims
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is grappling with fresh internal divisions as its North-Central Forum clashes with Plateau State leaders over Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s alleged plan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.
The Forum faulted a resolution passed by Plateau APC stakeholders on October 17 rejecting Mutfwang’s possible entry, describing the move as selfish and unproductive. Its chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, accused those behind the resolution of failing to deliver their polling units for the party during the last election but now seeking federal appointments under President Bola Tinubu.
Zazzaga said the Forum still wants Mutfwang to join the APC, insisting that his defection enjoys the backing of influential figures in the Presidential Villa. He maintained that those opposing the governor lack electoral value, arguing that political appointments should be based on performance, not personal interests.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, APC chieftain Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi accused the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, of causing division within the party by allegedly turning his office into a campaign base ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
However, the APC North-West Zonal leadership dismissed the claims, describing them as personal and urging Shinkafi to use the party’s internal channels for redress. Zonal Publicity Secretary Musa Mailafiya Mada cautioned against taking internal disputes to the media, stressing the need for unity and discipline within the party.
