EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Re-Elected as NACIWA President, Earns Fresh 3-Year Term

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has been re-elected as President of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA).

His re-election took place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during the 7th Annual General Assembly of the network, held in Abuja.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by representatives of all ECOWAS member states confirmed Olukoyede’s re-election through a consensus renewal of mandate, citing his “remarkable leadership and commitment” to strengthening regional cooperation against trans-border economic and financial crimes.

According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede and other members of the NACIWA Executive Committee will serve an additional three-year term, following the renewal of their mandates.

“The EFCC Chair and other Executive Committee members, who completed their first term at the end of the 7th Annual General Assembly of NACIWA in Abuja on Wednesday, were re-elected through a consensus renewal of their mandates owing to their optimal and exemplary performance,” the statement read.

The Assembly, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS, also adopted new guidelines on Borderless Investigations, Asset Tracing, Recovery, and Management, designed to promote cross-border collaboration and transparency among member nations.

Olukoyede urged all member states to integrate the guidelines into their national anti-corruption frameworks to ensure coordinated implementation across the sub-region.

“All the member states noted with satisfaction the adoption of the ECOWAS Guidelines on Borderless Investigations, Asset Tracing, Recovery, and Management, and called on all member states to integrate them into national frameworks to ensure harmonized implementation,” the communiqué stated.

Delegates at the meeting also reaffirmed their commitment to global anti-corruption frameworks, including the 2001 ECOWAS Protocol on the Fight Against Corruption, the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, and the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption.

The communiqué further emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among financial intelligence units, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organizations to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in anti-corruption efforts.

In a major development, the Assembly also approved the admission of new member institutions, including Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and CPC Cabo Verde, expanding NACIWA’s reach within the ECOWAS region.

NACIWA, established under ECOWAS, serves as a regional platform for collaboration among anti-corruption agencies across West Africa.

Olukoyede’s re-election as President underscores renewed regional confidence in Nigeria’s leadership role in the ongoing fight against economic and financial crimes across the sub-region.
