The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has officially inducted 19 graduates of Wellspring University, Edo State, into the nursing profession.
The induction and oath-taking ceremony, which marked the university’s first for the Faculty of Nursing Science, was held on Tuesday at the institution’s campus in Benin City.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of the council, Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan, congratulated the inductees, urging them to uphold professionalism and excellence in their service delivery.
Represented by Ali Gorini from the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhassan reminded the new nurses that their patients’ well-being depended on their competence, compassion, and commitment.
“The essence of this ceremony is to celebrate your transition from students to registered nurses. Nursing is a noble profession that demands empathy, diligence, and a commitment to continuous learning,” he said.
Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Science, Prof. Ngozi Osunde, described the ceremony as a landmark event, urging the new professionals to stay updated with global best practices as the nursing profession continues to evolve.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Isaac Ajayi, praised the inductees as pioneers of the institution’s nursing programme and commended their dedication and resilience. He also acknowledged the support of parents and the university’s governing council while inviting the public to the 13th convocation ceremony scheduled for Friday.
Delivering the induction lecture, Prof. Fidelis Okafor traced the evolution of nursing in Nigeria and applauded the growing interest of young people in the profession.
