The Super Eagles of Nigeria have safely arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after their flight experienced a mid-air incident that forced an emergency return to Luanda, Angola.
Reports earlier indicated that the ValueJet aircraft transporting the team developed a cracked windscreen shortly after taking off from a refuelling stop in Angola.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the team was returning home on Saturday after their 2–1 victory over Lesotho in Polokwane, South Africa, when the technical fault occurred.
The aircraft had to return to the Luanda airport for safety inspections, leaving the players and officials stranded for several hours until another plane was arranged.
After obtaining the necessary flight clearance, the team departed Angola and arrived at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on Sunday morning.
The Super Eagles are expected to resume training immediately in preparation for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin Republic, scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nigeria currently sit third in Group C with 14 points, trailing Benin Republic and South Africa. The Eagles must win their final game and hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda to secure automatic qualification for the World Cup.
