Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed their commitment to unity, fairness, and credible internal elections ahead of the party’s National Convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The assurance was given in Abuja during a meeting of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Protocol Sub-Committee, chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang serving as co-chair. The meeting was part of ongoing preparations for the convention where 19 new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected.
Governor Fintiri pledged that the committee would ensure a transparent and credible exercise that upholds the party’s democratic ideals.
“We are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. We are putting in our best to ensure a successful convention. Not under our leadership will we let this party down,” Fintiri stated.
He explained that all aspirants who meet eligibility criteria would undergo thorough screening and be given equal opportunity to contest.
“Anyone who has purchased forms and has no issues in their records will be screened. Go and test your popularity on the field. We’re already finalising the delegates’ list, which will be made public,” he added.
Fintiri urged party members to remain disciplined and focused, assuring them of an open and competitive process.
“It’s not a closed system; it’s open. Those supported by the majority will emerge victorious. Let’s make sacrifices and ignore distractions — victory will be ours,” he said.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang emphasised that the convention would be a reflection of the PDP’s readiness to strengthen its organisational structure.
“This meeting shows that the PDP is serious about the convention. Those who founded the PDP will not wish to see it collapse in our time. We have a duty to keep the platform alive for Nigerians,” he noted.
He further stressed the importance of coordination among committee members to ensure effective logistics and protocol management.
“Our job is clearly defined. This inaugural meeting is to familiarise ourselves because the real work will happen in Ibadan,” Mutfwang added.
The upcoming convention is expected to produce new national officers and signal the next phase of the PDP’s ongoing reorganisation and rebuilding process
