The father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad has asked the Lagos State government to begin criminal proceedings against individuals named in the coroner’s inquest into his son’s death.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, after receiving an injection from auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe. He was buried the following day, but intense public outcry led authorities to exhume his body on September 21 for an autopsy.
In a letter dated October 3 and addressed to the Lagos State Attorney General through his lawyers, the bereaved father demanded that criminal charges be filed within 14 days against those indicted by the coroner.
The letter identified Ogedengbe, cited for unlawful medical practice and gross negligence, and Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, faulted for negligence. It also mentioned Ibrahim Owodunni, known as Prime Boy, and others accused of either facilitating the nurse’s involvement or delaying medical attention.
He lamented that nearly three months after the coroner’s verdict of July 11, 2025, no prosecution had begun. He urged the Attorney General to act within the specified period or grant his legal team authority to prosecute on behalf of the state.
The letter stressed that the coroner’s findings amounted to clear indictments requiring prosecution to uphold justice and reflect the public’s demand for accountability.
In October 2023, Naira Marley and Sam Larry were arrested over alleged links to Mohbad’s death but were released on bail after five weeks. A magistrate court later cleared them of any involvement in February 2025.
