Edo governor, works minister appalled by state of FG roads

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and the Minister of Works, David Umahi, stood side-by-side, united in their dismay. They openly lamented the appalling condition of federal roads in Edo State, describing the plight of motorists as tragic and unacceptable.

During their inspection of the Benin-Warri dual carriageway bypass, they saw firsthand the hardship faced daily by commuters. Both agreed the situation reflected years of criminal neglect that could no longer be ignored.

Later, speaking to reporters, Okpebholo and Umahi commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift intervention and commitment to reversing decades of infrastructural decay.

They stressed the urgency of delivering immediate and lasting solutions. Minister Umahi admitted the scale of the crisis was immense. He observed that no motorist could travel 100 kilometres on federal roads nationwide without encountering major challenges.

“President Tinubu met an overwhelming situation in terms of roads and bridges,” he stated, quickly dismissing critics and insisting the President remained focused on delivering durable roads.

Governor Okpebholo, taking his turn, commended Umahi for his prompt response to Edo’s infrastructural challenges. He recalled his own recent inspection, where he had been personally disturbed by the sight of multiple accidents and stranded motorists.

Okpebholo stressed that quality road infrastructure was not merely essential for the people’s welfare; it was critical for the ruling party’s credibility.
