Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, was on Thursday, September 25, conferred with Honorary Citizenship of Georgia after participating in a series of engagements tied to Black Congressional Week in Washington, D.C., with emphasis on Georgia State activities.
At the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception in the Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, Obi joined U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in discussions on strengthening African democracy and development. He noted that Senator Warnock encouraged deeper dialogue on the continent’s governance future.
The former Anambra governor also met with Ms Kim Clark, CEO of Georgia Power, which generates more than 20,000 megawatts of electricity nationwide. Obi described the meeting as “deeply insightful,” stressing that energy partnerships are essential to Africa’s growth.
Speaking at the One Voice Africa forum, a platform advocating for the dignity of Black immigrants, Obi urged stronger advocacy for good governance across Africa, remarking that “the continent’s potential is immeasurable if led by visionary and responsible leaders.”
The day concluded with the State of Georgia bestowing Honorary Citizenship on him—an honour Obi said reaffirmed his commitment to “learning, serving, and building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.”
