The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Okolonkwo Ebere Theresa, a businesswoman, for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine hidden in her underwear at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, according to Eyes of Lagos.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated on Sunday, September 21, 2025, that the suspect was intercepted on September 14 by Aviation Security officers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) working in collaboration with NDLEA operatives at Terminal 2’s screening point.
Meth Concealed in Underwear
A thorough search revealed two parcels of a white crystalline substance concealed in Ebere’s bum pad underwear. Laboratory analysis later confirmed the substance as methamphetamine, with a total weight of 1.40 kilograms.
Suspect Admits Involvement
In her preliminary statement, Ebere, who identified herself as a second-hand clothing dealer and POS operator based in Enugu, admitted being recruited by a drug trafficking syndicate to carry out the operation.
NDLEA has launched further investigations to trace the syndicate behind her recruitment and determine the intended final destination of the drugs.
Ongoing Efforts Against Drug Trafficking
In recent months, the NDLEA has intensified surveillance across Nigeria’s airports and borders, intercepting narcotics and arresting couriers linked to organized trafficking networks. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug syndicates and preventing Nigeria’s airports from being used for international drug smuggling.
