A father, Ishaku Joseph, on Monday brought his daughter’s boyfriend, Yunana Zock, before a Customary Court in Kaduna State, accusing him of misappropriating his late wife’s death benefits.
Prosecutor Jeremiah Amfani told the court that Zock allegedly deceived Mr Joseph’s daughter, Emmanuella, and withdrew N13 million, which had been paid as his late wife’s death benefits. The money had been transferred to Emmanuella’s account in 2023, as she was her mother’s next of kin. The case was investigated by the police following Mr Joseph’s report.
During her testimony, Emmanuella said the accused took her ATM card without her consent and withdrew the funds.
In his defence, Zock stated that he transferred N11.9 million to his girlfriend’s account and claimed she had agreed to give him N2 million to start a business. He said they had shared their ATM PINs while spending time together in Abuja. He submitted an Opay account statement as evidence, which was accepted by the court, and said he would present a witness at the next hearing.
Presiding Judge Patience Musa adjourned the case until September 30 for the continuation of the defence.
