Yobe APC Stakeholders Urge Tinubu to Reward Loyalty with Federal Appointments

Hobnob News – Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Yobe South Senatorial District have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address what they described as their “total exclusion” from federal appointments.

A delegation led by Sambo Kakawa on Thursday visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja to protest what they termed a glaring imbalance in the distribution of appointments from the state.

According to Kakawa, Yobe South, which delivered the highest number of votes for APC in the 2023 elections, has not benefited from any notable appointments in the present administration.

“INEC data from the 2023 elections shows that Yobe South contributed 43 per cent of the state’s total registered votes, with over 617,781 votes out of 1,485,141. Despite this, Yobe South has been entirely excluded from President Tinubu’s appointments,” Kakawa said.

He argued that while Yobe East and Yobe North have produced ministers, directors-general, executive secretaries, and several board members, Yobe South—despite being the most populous zone—has nothing to show.

“In politics, population and majority votes should count. We urge President Tinubu to recognise the contributions of Yobe South and consider our aspirations for representation in his administration,” he added.

The stakeholders further warned that continued marginalisation could impact the APC’s electoral fortunes in 2027. They also recommended Haruna Sardauna, Director General of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, as a suitable candidate for the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs position.

The group called on Governor Mai Mala Buni to intervene, while some State House officials who received the delegation assured them that their concerns would be addressed.

President Tinubu has faced mounting criticism in recent years over allegations of favouring certain regions in federal appointments, with critics including Senator Ali Ndume, the Northern Elders Forum, and other prominent figures, who argue that such practices violate Section 14(3) of Nigeria’s Constitution mandating federal character in appointments.
