Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Isma’il, over allegations of negligence and failure to discharge his duties effectively.
The suspension, which took immediate effect, was confirmed on Thursday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida.
According to the statement, the governor also directed the suspended commissioner to provide a written explanation justifying why further disciplinary actions should not be taken against him.
“The Executive Governor has instructed the suspended Commissioner for Health to justify why further sanctions should not be applied, having disregarded the mandate entrusted to him,” the statement read.
The action is the latest in Governor Idris’ ongoing push for accountability and discipline within public service, with his administration repeatedly emphasising dedication to duty as a guiding principle.
The development comes amid mounting criticism of Kebbi’s healthcare system.
In recent weeks, journalist Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa was detained after releasing a viral video showing patients at Kangiwa General Hospital lying on bare metal beds without mattresses. The footage triggered widespread public outrage and renewed scrutiny of healthcare delivery in the state.
