Former Governor of Jigawa State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not enjoy support from the North in the 2027 presidential election.
Lamido made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting of the PDP expanded caucus held in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The PDP stalwart accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plunging Nigerians into untold hardship, insecurity, and poverty, stressing that the North had been the worst hit.
“For years, the North and Nigerians have been suffering from the bad APC leadership, including poverty, insecurity, and hardship,” Lamido said. “We have been telling people Tinubu does not like the North. He doesn’t like anything that will help in developing the region. During his tenure as Governor of Lagos, Northerners were maltreated, attacked, and killed.”
He further alleged that President Tinubu manipulated his way into office in 2023.
“In 2023, both the ACF, Ohanaeze, Afenifere, and other meaningful associations didn’t support Tinubu. He used money to influence his support and win the election,” Lamido claimed.
The former governor lamented that Nigerians ignored warnings against voting Tinubu and are now facing the consequences of their decision.
“It’s quite unfortunate for any Northerner to support Tinubu’s reelection bid despite the position he is holding, whether as minister, governor, or lawmaker. I don’t think a right-thinking person from the North will support Tinubu’s reelection bid again in 2027,” he added.
Lamido, however, expressed optimism that Nigeria could be rescued if citizens unite across political, religious, and regional lines. He also voiced confidence in the PDP’s ongoing internal restructuring, hinting at the party’s readiness to reclaim power.
“With the current developments going on in the PDP, there is a possibility it will return to normal, and we will do everything possible to save this country,” he stated.
