Hon. Alfred Berger has been officially sworn in as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly (BSHOA).
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Assembly complex in Makurdi, followed the resignation of the immediate past Speaker earlier today.
Berger, who represents his constituency in the 10th Assembly, took the oath of office amidst cheers from fellow lawmakers and dignitaries present at the event.
The development marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Benue Assembly as Berger assumes the role of presiding officer, tasked with steering legislative business and fostering harmony between the legislature and other arms of government.
Details surrounding the resignation of the former Speaker remain sketchy, but sources within the Assembly said the transition was carried out peacefully in line with parliamentary procedures.
With his swearing-in, Hon. Alfred Berger is expected to hit the ground running by addressing pending legislative matters and strengthening the Assembly’s oversight functions.
