The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged support for individuals who back President Bola Tinubu, urging residents to “support those that the government will listen to.”
He made the remarks while commending former FCT Senator Philip Aduda and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman Christopher Maikalangu during the flag-off of Lot 2 of Water Supply Projects in Karu on Thursday.
Wike praised both men for their capacity to bring development to their constituencies and promised the construction of a 2km road in Karu following Aduda’s request. He emphasised that government support should go to those with the ability to deliver results.
“There is a road where you said is about 2km, is it not? Consider it done. Support those who have the capacity to bring something to the people. Support those that government will listen to,” Wike said.
He highlighted Maikalangu’s achievements as AMAC chairman, including improvements on Saburi Road, Kabusa-Takushere Road, Deidei Road, and others, noting the chairman’s access to government as a key factor in delivering development.
“For me, I’m here to talk about those who have access to government and bring something to the people. The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do. I don’t know the party he belongs to, but I know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike added.
The minister also criticised previous administrations for failing to provide basic amenities, particularly water supply, and praised the Tinubu-led government for fulfilling its promise of providing potable water to satellite towns.
“We have had governments that stayed here for five or eight years. Has any government come to provide water? Did this government promise it will give you water? We have come to fulfil that promise. The people of Karu will remember the government that remembers them,” he stated.
Aduda served as FCT Senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party between 2011 and 2023 before losing the seat in the 2023 general elections.
Maikalangu, who defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2024, is seeking re-election as AMAC chairman in the February 2026 area council elections.
