The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for three months over an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh.
Those suspended include Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, Hon. Shimawua Emmanuel, Hon. Ikong Cyril Ijebe, and Hon. Abu Omoru.
The decision was reached on Friday during plenary at the Assembly complex in Makurdi after extensive deliberations on what members described as gross misconduct and acts capable of destabilizing the House.
The lawmakers were accused of conspiring to remove the Speaker through an impeachment move considered unlawful and in violation of the standing rules of the Assembly.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Dajoh maintained that the House would not condone acts aimed at undermining its unity and stability.
He stressed that discipline within the Assembly must be upheld to safeguard its integrity and ensure smooth legislative business in the interest of the people of Benue State.
