Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Annie Idibia, has spoken candidly about the lessons she learned from her failed marriage to Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba.
In a heartfelt social media post, Annie revealed that one of the major factors that contributed to the collapse of their union was the undue influence of family members and in-laws in their private affairs.
“One of the biggest mistakes I made in my marriage was letting other people, especially in-laws and family, have too much say. At first, it looked like they were only giving advice, but little by little, it became too much. I was always being compared and judged, and it started to feel like I didn’t belong in my own home,” she wrote.
She explained that issues that should have been resolved privately were often turned into family matters, leading to constant pressure and tension between her and 2Baba.
“Fights that should have ended in private became talks for everyone. Every little problem was reported. Every decision had to be discussed with others. Slowly, the love we had changed into pain and pressure,” Annie added.
The actress advised women to protect their homes by setting clear boundaries and keeping their marriages private.
“Ladies, please learn from me. Don’t let others control your home. Set your rules early. Respect your partner and ask to be respected too. Keep your marriage private and safe. A marriage is for two people, not for the whole world,” she cautioned.
Annie and 2Baba, who share children together, officially separated after years of a high-profile marriage that had been under public scrutiny due to controversies surrounding infidelity and family disputes.
