Faulty Door Forces British Airways to Offload 58 Abuja–London Passengers

British Airways on Friday denied boarding to 58 passengers scheduled to travel from Abuja to London after a faulty aircraft door prompted safety concerns.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle, explaining that safety regulations required the airline to leave some seats vacant.

“Due to the faulty door, 58 passengers were unable to board this morning,” Achimugu stated.

He noted that the airline provided hotel accommodation for affected travellers, with 28 opting to return home and 30 accepting lodging offers.

According to him, arrangements were being made to fly the passengers to London on Saturday, and those affected were eligible to apply for compensation.

Achimugu also advised travellers to seek assistance from NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminal in such situations to ensure their rights are upheld.

“The officers will make sure your right to care is protected if the airline causes a delay,” he said.

Hobnob News understands that the aircraft was grounded pending repairs to the faulty door, in compliance with global aviation safety standards.
