The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a minor bomb explosion occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, triggering a brief fire outbreak.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the incident happened inside one of the storage buildings belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Squadron.

Although the explosion caused panic within the vicinity, the Army assured the public that it was a localized blast and did not pose a wider security threat. Firefighters and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to contain the situation and prevent further damage.

The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the safety of personnel and residents in and around military facilities.
No casualties were reported at the time of filing this report.
