The Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71. The revered traditional ruler died on Friday morning in Abuja following a protracted illness.
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State confirmed the monarch’s passing in a statement issued by his spokesperson and Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sulaiman Idris.
Describing the Emir’s death as a personal loss, Governor Lawal hailed the late traditional ruler as a visionary leader, dedicated statesman, and pillar of support to both the government and the people of Zamfara.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” the governor stated. “He was a devoted royal father and a leader who committed himself fully to the development of Zamfara State.”
The late Emir was appointed as the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, and served the emirate with distinction for ten years. Before ascending the throne, he had a distinguished career in the civil service, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto and present-day Zamfara States.
Governor Lawal extended condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate Council, and the entire people of Zamfara State. He expressed hope that the late Emir’s legacy of service and integrity would continue to inspire future leaders.
“I have lost a father and a confidant whose wisdom greatly shaped my leadership journey,” the governor said, praying for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and for his admittance into Aljannah Firdaus.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Gusau Emirate Council.
