The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has applauded the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, describing it as a clear reaffirmation of the people’s will.
This was made known in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka.
According to Hobnob News, the Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, for lack of credible evidence to overturn the result of the September 2024 governorship election.
Reacting to the ruling, Wike said the judgment marks the final confirmation of the mandate freely given to Okpebholo by the people of Edo State.
“This victory is for the people of Edo, who elected Okpebholo. It is a call for greater commitment to the service of the people,” Wike stated. “I congratulate the governor and urge him to keep doing his best for the upliftment of his people.”
The former Governor of Rivers State further encouraged Governor Okpebholo to remain focused and view the legal victory as a renewed call to selfless leadership.
In a spirit of reconciliation and development, Wike also extended an olive branch to the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, urging him to collaborate with the governor for the progress of the state.
“The time for politicking is over,” Wike added. “Now is the time to work together to move Edo State forward.”
