Troops of the Nigerian military under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized at least 10 Boko Haram terrorists during a fierce gun battle in the Lake Chad Basin region, according to a statement from the Defence Headquarters.
The clearance operation, carried out between Rann and Gamboru Ngala along the Nigeria–Cameroon border, targeted known terrorist enclaves. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Markus Kangye, disclosed that the mission was a coordinated effort involving troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Hybrid Forces, and other security agencies.
“The encounter occurred during a combined operation strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of BH/ISWAP terrorists operating within the border communities,” Major-General Kangye said.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops stormed the hideouts of the insurgents, resulting in a heavy exchange of gunfire. The terrorists were eventually overpowered, and at least 10 were confirmed killed during the operation.
Security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the scene, including anti-aircraft rounds, which are now undergoing technical analysis.
Kangye further noted that search and pursuit operations are ongoing to apprehend any fleeing insurgents and uncover additional terrorist hideouts in the area.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with the MNJTF, Hybrid Forces, and other security agencies, have intensified operational tempo in the Lake Chad Basin and other parts of Northern Borno to eliminate the remnants of BH/ISWAP in the region,” the statement concluded.
The successful operation marks another step forward in the ongoing fight against insurgency in northeastern Nigeria.
