In a strategic move to bolster national security and confront emerging threats, the Nigerian Army has successfully graduated 604 elite Special Forces as part of its intensive Exercise Restore Hope training programme.
The graduation ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Nigerian Army Military Training Centre in Kachia, Kaduna State, marked the conclusion of a rigorous six-month specialist training, focused on both kinetic and non-kinetic components of modern warfare.
Training for a Modern Battlefield
Designed to tackle contemporary security challenges, the training programme equipped the soldiers with advanced skills including marksmanship, weapon handling, precision targeting, and mission-oriented tactical manoeuvring.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, in his address (delivered by Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding 1 Division), commended the graduating troops for their discipline, resilience, and professionalism throughout the duration of the training.
“These special forces have undergone an upgraded training regimen beyond basic soldiering,” said Oluyede. “They’ve acquired the critical combat competencies necessary to take on complex security missions.”
Operational Readiness and Deployment
The 604 personnel were meticulously selected from various Army formations across the country. According to military authorities, they are now set to be deployed to strategic theatres of operation, where their specialized capabilities will help strengthen the Army’s existing forces and enhance field performance.
“The troops displayed exceptional coordination, tactical agility, and firepower throughout the programme,” Oluyede noted.
He added that Exercise Restore Hope is a biannual flagship programme of the Nigerian Army, fully integrated into its operational calendar to ensure continuous capacity building and combat readiness.
Bolstering National Defence
Oluyede highlighted that the freshly trained special forces would play a critical role in improving the Army’s operational efficiency and amplifying the nation’s fight against insecurity.
“This initiative is vital for sustaining operational momentum and achieving superior outcomes in our ongoing efforts to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity and secure lives and property,” he concluded.
With the addition of these 604 specially trained soldiers, the Nigerian Army continues to reaffirm its commitment to adapting to evolving threats and securing the nation through strategic preparedness and elite troop development.
