More than 450,000 Nigerians have applied for less than 10,000 available positions in the ongoing Federal Government recruitment drive, Hobnob News has gathered.
The mass application follows a January 2025 announcement by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), inviting eligible Nigerians to apply for various positions within the Federal Civil Service. The recruitment was formally announced in a newspaper advertorial signed by the Director of Recruitment and Appointment, Ogaba Ede.
Over 70 vacant roles were advertised, including positions such as Administrative Officer, Programme Analyst, Procurement Officer, Senior Computer Engineer, Dentist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Education Officer, and Senior Youth Development Officer. Others include Fisheries Officer, Nursing Officer, Radiographer, Psychologist, Auditor, Surveyor, Geologist, Biomedical Engineer, and Foreign Affairs Officer, among many others.
Applicants were required to submit their applications through the commission’s official portal. The initial deadline of March 10, 2025, was later extended to March 17 to accommodate more entries.
However, many applicants reported difficulties accessing the portal during the registration window, a recurring challenge in large-scale government recruitments.
A senior official of the commission, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that while over 450,000 people applied, the number of available positions is fewer than 10,000.
“Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted,” the official stated. “Those who do not receive a message have not been selected. The next phase is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), which will be conducted in each applicant’s state of residence. There will be no rescheduling, and results will be displayed immediately after the test.”
Responding to inquiries, the FCSC spokesperson, Taiwo Hassan, assured the public that more information would be made available soon.
“We will communicate the next steps regarding the recruitment exercise to the public in due course,” he noted.
As anticipation builds, hundreds of thousands of Nigerians now await notification, hoping to be among the few to secure one of the coveted Federal Civil Service roles.
